What is testing and tagging?

Testing and tagging is a procedure in which following a certain protocol regarding respective professionals inspecting the electrical appliances for faults or glitches are conducted. This procedure involves two main aspects:

• Testing: an electrical appliance or equipment is tested with the help of standardized gadgets and tools.

• Tagging: tested appliance is then tagged accordingly. Various color combinations can be used to show the condition of the appliance, time of year, etc.

Standards

Mainly, the Australian version of standards is used to guide the inspectors. There are two standards set by Standards Australia which highlight testing and tagging which are stated below:

• AS/NZS 3760: generally outlines the testing and tagging procedures of electrical appliances.

• AS/NZS 3012: related explicitly to industrial construction, demotion, and equipment installation.

Purpose of testing and tagging

There can be many purposes for electrical testing and tagging but its main purpose is safety. Safety means that the person who comes in contact with a certain device should be safe from electrical hazards.

Secondly, testing and tagging procedures can determine the current state of an electronic appliance or equipment as they usually face constant weathering and wearing. Frequent testing and tagging can provide a certificate of the condition of electrical equipment at hand keeping our electrical appliance in top-notch condition for a long duration.

Do second-hand sale electronics need testing and tagging?

Second-hand electronics come under the most critical group when it comes to risks and hazards. Therefore, they need testing and tagging. Whether a buyer or a seller, both need to get testing and tagging done on second-hand electronic appliances to ensure the workability of the products.

Testing and tagging of these products can highlight various faults and glitches that can never be detected by visual inspection alone. It can also be a certificate of their feasibility at the time of the trade. So, selling and buying of second-hand sale products esp. electronics shouldn’t be done without testing and tagging.

Why should second-hand sale electronics be tested and tagged frequently?

As described above, second-hand sale electronics are usually accustomed to small and significant faults and glitches which are typically restorable and seldom incorrigible. Most of the time it's economical to buy second-hand electronics or to repair a broken one rather than buying a new.

To accomplish that, testing and tagging are compulsory. Following are the various reasons for why we need to test and tag second-hand electronics:

Economical

Testing and tagging will always benefit you as it highlights flaws of the electronic device that you are buying. Moreover, it can show previous records if the seller has subjected it to the procedure previously. Test and tagging can also save you from crooked people selling malfunctioning machines.

Reliable

Second-hand appliances which have been previously tested and tagged tend to show more reliability. The workability of such devices is more efficient and economical.

Safety

When dealing with electricity, safety is of the utmost importance. So, testing and tagging become mandatory when using second-hand electronics. Testing and tagging ensure the eradication of any risk and hazards by the hand of licensed and trained professionals.

Marketability

From the selling point of view, testing and tagging is very crucial as it increases the commercial value of the product and makes the product marketable. People tend to trust the product more when a tag of proficiency is attached to it.

Conclusion

Conclusively, it can be said that electrical testing and tagging of the second-hand electronic device is necessary to ensure the workability and safety of the product that you are going to buy or sell.
